SHAH ALAM, 30 November 2011: Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK) launched the POWER! Online Learning Portal (POWER! OLP) in the main campus of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) here today.

Present at the launching were Dato’ Prof. Ir Dr. Sahol Hamid Abu Bakar, the Vice Chancellor of UiTM, Dato’ Mohd Hanif bin Sher Mohamed, the Chairman of AKPK, and Madam Koid Swee Lian, the CEO of AKPK.

The event was also graced by Jehan Miskin and Lisa Surihani, two celebrities who earnestly believe in the importance of financial prudence as a way of living, particularly among youths.

The POWER! OLP is an extension of the existing POWER! Managing Your Debts Effectively Programme (POWER! Programme). The portal serves as an alternative avenue for the public to conveniently acquire personal money management skills by completing a financial education training course online.

The POWER! Programme covers sound advice and basics on cash flow management, the basics of borrowing, using credit cards wisely, buying a car and a house, as well as knowledge on managing one’s debts.

Upon completion of the POWER! OLP course, participants will be awarded a virtual certificate which is equivalent to the certificate issued to participants who physically attend the POWER! Programme conducted by AKPK trainers.

The POWER! OLP is meant for the internet-literate who are interested but may not be able to attend the POWER! Programme at AKPK’s premises. The online portal’s e-learning approach allows busy young executives to participate in the programme at their own pace and time.

A pilot run of the POWER! OLP took place among 30 undergraduates on 23 November at UiTM’s computer lab.

The POWER! Programme is a joint effort between Bank Negara Malaysia and the banking industry to equip young individuals aged 18 and above with knowledge on the basics of borrowing and debt management.

The programme was developed as part of AKPK’s financial education initiatives through road shows, classroom training and its POWER! book published this year, and is made available free of charge to the public.

Available in English and Bahasa Malaysia, the newly launched online learning portal is AKPK’s latest effort to complement and broaden the reach of the POWER! Programme to IT-savvy young adults who can learn about personal credit management at their convenience.
